About
the Meals
Volunteers deliver hot nutritious meals to your door Monday
through Friday between 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. Frozen
weekend meals are available, if needed. You may choose to
receive 1 - 5 meals a week, on the week days of your choice.
A
typical meal consists of an entree with 2-3 oz. of protein;
potato, rice or pasta; vegetables and/or fruit; a whole grain;
milk and dessert. Most meals are low sodium/low fat.
Salt is not added to food during cooking, but some foods
naturally contain salt. Some special diets are available.
Safety
Checks
Meals on
Wheels is more than just a meal. Our volunteers provide a
vital safety check on your well being. If you are not home
or do not answer the door when the meal is delivered, and we are
not sure you are alright, we worry. We will call
your
emergency
contact you
give when you sign up.
Please
call and let the kitchen know when you will not be home.
Otherwise we will call your, your emergency contact and the
local hospitals to try and find you. If we're unable to
confirm your safety, we call the local or state police to go to
your home and check the make sure you are OK or if you are in
need of help.
Weather Cancellations and Blizzard Bags
Bad
weather conditions may prevent us from delivering meals.
To help ensure you have food during storm closures, we provide
four shelf stable meals for you to use in an emergency.
These "Blizzard Bags" are delivered each December. Please
save them for times we are unable to deliver.
